Troubleshooting ID Scan Issues:

Why isn't my ID scanning correctly?

  1. Lighting Conditions

Lighting that is too bright or too dim can prevent the scanner from detecting the barcode.

    • Too much light: If you are outdoors, move out of direct sunlight. If you are indoors and using a lamp or other light source, make sure it is not pointed directly at the ID card.
    • Too little light: Move the ID card to a spot where you get more light onto the surface of the card and we find that natural lighting is best.
  2. Background behind ID

Distracting backgrounds or backgrounds that are too light may impact the scan reading the front of the ID

    • Place your ID on a dark, solid background to improve contrast and barcode readability
  3. Physical damage to the ID
    • If your card appears to be dirty or damaged, please wipe the card with a clean sponge or towel and try again.
    • There may be scratches or physical damage to the ID card.
  4. Camera Resolution
    • The resolution of the camera of your device may be too low to be supported for this process and our scanner. Contact our support team via the chat bubble on your request or emailing us at support@certifid.com to check that your device make & model is supported.

Why will my camera not open?

  1. If the camera will not open, check your settings to allow the browser to use the camera. Please see this article on how to grant permission to your device's camera
  2. If you see a blank window, copy and paste the link from the email or text message directly into your browser.

Facial Scan Questions:

Do I have to remove accessories like glasses or hats for the selfie pic?

For best results, it's recommended to remove items that obstruct facial features. However, the facial recognition system can still evaluate your identity even if some elements like glasses are present. The technology generates a match score based on various facial markers.

Acceptable Forms of ID:

What are examples of a government-issued ID?

  • Driver's licenses
  • Passports
  • Government-issued identity cards

What if I don’t have a government-issued ID, or my ID was stolen?
CertifID Match requires the authentication of an identity card issued by a government agency against which our data can perform the required checks. If you don’t have one due to loss or theft:

  • Contact your title agent, attorney, or closing agent.
  • They can guide you through alternative identity validation options using CertifID’s tools, such as Confirm or Collect requests.
